Since the project began, the main objective was to promote the maximum accessibility feasible for visitors. Therefore, both for accessing excavations and facilities, ramps have been built to facilitate wheelchair mobility.
As part of sustainability criteria of the project, maximizing the use of natural resources in the area (land, stones, water, labour, etc.) has been one of the most fundamental issues taken into account in restoration works.
In February 2012, upon the initiative of Guadamur town council, Juan Manuel RojasArqueología S. L. was commissioned to draft the project Guarrazar: Archaeology and New Resources, whose main objective was the restoration of heritage (archaeology and environment) that includes Guarrazar andtool shed its availability to the public.
The decision to get the project started to restore the archaeological site and make it visitable, was undertaken by mid 2014, in view of the significant results of the archaeological excavations conducted in 2013 and 2014. They suggested a system of public/private management between Guadamur Council and the company Actividades Arqueológicas, S.L. in order to ensure project sustainability and financing.
Visitable archaeological spaces at Guarrazar are located in areas considered to be the most important, although there are areas with vestiges making archaeological site wider (exceeding 40 hectares). The place is comprised of four privately held plots (plots 127, 129, 132 and 133 in industrial estate 8) and another one owned by the municipality of Guadamur (plot 01 in industrial estate 9), with whom an agreement of assignment for use has been signed for a period of ten years in order to carry out archaeological activities.
The construction of multifunctional porch and toilets, as well as the rehabilitation of the old tool shed, are indispensable infrastructures for developing activities aimed at showcasing archaeological and natural heritage of Guarrazar.
Infrastructures built are outstanding in terms of minimum impact, both as regards to the landscape and prevention of harmful effects to environment and archaeological heritage.
The construction of most infrastructures has to a large extent been financed by LEADER European Funds.
